Frequently Asked Questions
1. How old does my child have to be to attend Mother Goose Playschool?
We offer a 3 and 4 year old program for children. Your child is eligible to attend the 3 year old program if he/she will turn 3 years of age by September 1 of the school year. Your child is eligible for the 4 year old program if he/she will turn 4 by December 31 of the school year.
2. Why are there two age cut off dates? Why are they not the same?
Due to licensing, we are only able to offer our program to children who are 3 years of age or older. We are unable to accept any child that is two at the time he/she attends the program.
3. Does my child have to be potty trained?
All children who attend either the 3 or 4 year old program must be potty trained before entering the program, and able to be independent in the bathroom.
4. Is your playschool licensed?
Yes, Mother Goose Playschool is a licensed preschool program. Private preschool programs are required to operate by specific guidelines set out by the Alberta Government for licensing purposes. We are proud to say that Mother Goose Playschool routinely passes the licensing inspection process each year with no non-compliance's. All of our teachers and substitutes are certified early childhood educators. Families that choose Mother Goose Playschool are eligible to apply for the government Stay at Home Subsidy.
5. How do I register my child for Mother Goose Playschool?
Our Registration night is in January. View our Home page of the website to see our current date and time. Bring your registration form, forms can be found under Forms on the website, and your registration fee of $40. Your child's name, with first, second and third choices, will go into a draw and that night we will draw for spots in our programs. If you are unhappy with the spot your child has been assigned you may go onto our waiting lists for your first choice. If you are unable to attend the Registration night you may register, starting the week after the Registration night, at the Playschool on Friday afternoons between 1 and 3..
6. Can I hold a spot for my child over the phone or by email?
Unfortunately not. We must have the completed registration form and the $75 registration fee in order to process your child's registration. Teachers are able to let you know if there are still spots available but you must register in person, at the playschool.
7. Are there any other meetings I am required to attend?
Yes, you must attend the Annual General Meeting in April. This meeting is important because we choose our volunteer board and sign up for other volunteer positions. It is also when you will pay the rest of your playschool fees.
8. How will you discipline my child?
We encourage a positive and happy atmosphere where problems are dealt with in a constructive manner. We establish a minimum number of limits on a child's behavior and enforce these limitations in a firm, but friendly manner, redirecting the child's attention whenever possible, reminding and encouraging problem solving. For our full discipline policy please see the Parent Handbook.
9. How many children are in each class?
