For those interested in doing the volcano experiment at home, the recipe is as follows:
Into a narrow glass or vial: 1 heaping tsp. of baking soda
5 drops of red food colouring
5 drops of dish washing liquid
Then add, while stirring: Several drops of white vinegar
Using a stir stick, begin stirring the solution while adding white vinegar, until the solution rises to the top and bubbles over. The children loved doing this!

Some have inquired about the recipe we use for our bannock. This recipe makes enough dough for twenty children, so if you don’t require as much you may want to reduce the amounts by half.
7 cups of flour
3 Tbsp. baking powder
2tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. Sugar
3 Tbsp margarine
Milk
Measure ½ cup of mixture into a small bowl. Add ¼ cup of milk. Stir together well.
Roll the dough onto a lightly floured surface and work it with your hands until it looks like a snake. Wrap it around a green stick (we use Willow). Bake in a 350 F oven for about 25 minutes or until it is lightly browned. Enjoy with butter, jam, honey, or by itself.

Here is the Flubber recipe that is the tactile experience that the children have enjoyed during the last week in March: You will need two ice cream buckets, or something similar.
Container 1 - Add 1 ½ cups of warm water, 2 cups of white glue, and a few drops of food colouring. Mix well.
Container 2 – Add 1 1/3 cups of warm water, and 3 tsp. Borax. Mix well. Pour container 2 into container 1. Gently lift and turn the mixture with your hands until about 1 tbsp. of liquid is left.
Flubber can be rolled and cut like playdough. It also stretches, bounces, and feels slippery like Jello. Keep in an airtight container and enjoy!
